Hong Kong University

‘RESET’s environmental technical skill set combined with their ability to communicate with non-specialists was invaluable as we moved from strategy development to implementation. We’re proud to have built Asia’s first tertiary education Green Revolving Fund.’

– Ann Kildahl, Sustainability Manager

The University is Hong Kong’s oldest tertiary institution, and is ranked 27th in the World University Rankings. With over 20 000 students spread across several campuses and a wide variety of building ages, types and architectural styles, managing HKU’s environmental footprint presented a significant challenge.

RESET worked with the HKU team to analyse campus environmental footprint reduction opportunities, with a focus on energy, water and waste performance improvements. Working with the HKU Sustainability Team, we formed a cross-departmental Working Group and identified access to capital as a major barrier to realising energy saving, renewable energy, and water efficiency projects.

To address this constraint, RESET designed and developed rules for the financing, governance and operation of a Green Revolving Fund (GRF) and provided technical detailing for an initial series of projects, which were approved and allocated capital.
