Transforming the Built Environment: Our Technical Procurement Guideline on Low Embodied Carbon Construction

We are immensely proud to announce the release of a first-of-its-kind guideline for the property and construction industries: our Technical Procurement Guideline on Low Embodied Carbon Construction.

Officially launched at ReThink HK 2024, the guideline is the culmination of our collaboration with the Hong Kong PropTech Alliance and its members, and provides comprehensive guidance on how to reduce embodied carbon across all stages of a project; from procurement through to construction.

The release of such a guideline is vitally important for decarbonization in the built environment sector: globally it is responsible for 40% of global GHG emissions, largely due to the sector’s reliance on carbon-intensive construction materials. This innovative guideline – which took over one year to produce following extensive engagement with industry leaders – will act as a significant disruptor in the sector, equipping major players with the technical insights needed to drive meaningful carbon reduction to meet their sustainability ambition. It is particularly relevant for Hong Kong, which has the highest concentration of property developers committed to Science Based Targets in Asia, but is also highly relevant to construction across the greater bay area.

Liam Salter, CEO of RESET Carbon shares “Lots of Hong Kong companies have got a lot more progressive on carbon reduction by setting science-based targets that require them to engage into their supply chains. If we want the supply chain to respond to that, we need to send a bigger demand signal.”

The launch of the guideline reflects RESET’s ongoing commitment to providing innovative, practical solutions to some of the world’s greatest decarbonization challenges. Alongside Hong Kong PropTech Alliance, we would like to express our gratitude to Hongkong Land, Gammon Construction and the Construction Industry Council, who contributed key insights, and to congratulate the RESET team on this pivotal sustainable procurement milestone.
