About the Company
A leading, global, food and beverage company based in the Philippines that is involved in processing, canning, packaging, and selling various food products, including fish, seafood, meat, milk, and coconut-based goods. The company is committed to sustainability and carbon management and is looking to expand its renewable energy and biomass usage, as well as improve its supply chain visibility.
The Challenge
The Company was interested in pursuing a net-zero target and one of the key challenges was how to manage its Scope 3 emissions. To understand the feasibility of setting a net-zero target, the company wanted to map and review its Scope 3 emissions, estimate its high-level emission projection and its reduction potential in line with Science-Based Targets (SBT), and develop a high-level reduction strategy.
Our Approach
RESET Carbon’s Southeast Asia team, took the following approach:
Phase 1: Scope 3 Emissions Mapping
• Benchmarking analysis of peers’ Scope 3 emissions
• Mapped and reviewed Scope 3 emissions
• Identified the key emission categories and product types as part of the next steps’ focus
Phase 2: High-level Reduction Strategy in Key Value Chain
• Using desktop research, the key reduction drivers and peer strategy, we evaluated the high-level reduction strategy for the Scope 3 emission hotspots
• Undertook internal and external stakeholder interviews to understand existing practices, carbon topic maturity and concerns over low carbon actions
Phase 3: Emission Roadmap and Educational Workshop
• Conducted high-level emissions projection through to 2030 by incorporating findings from supplier and procurement team engagements, desktop research and business growth
• Developed a high-level reduction strategy for each key commodity and emission category
• Provided a board-level educational workshop with recommendations for actions and next steps
The Outcome
The company received a FLAG and non-FLAG emission projection by 2030 for different scenarios and a high-level response of the current confidence level of setting a Science-Based Scope 3 carbon target. Suggestions were provided for the next steps and how to improve their carbon management, the potential target setting methods, and practical strategies to decarbonize specific commodities. This collaboration resulted in a robust feasibility study for pursuing a net-zero SBT. By understanding the reduction potential in each key product and developing actionable strategies, the F&B company is well-positioned to progress towards Scope 3 emission management and contribute to sustainability efforts in the food and beverage sector.
