Empowering Businesses with Smaller Renewable Demand in Taiwan’s Energy Transition

The Taipower Company, Taiwan’s single state-owned electricity provider, has been prioritizing renewable energy as a key area of development and has introduced multiple renewable projects targeting different customer profiles over the past few years to accelerate energy transition.

At the end of both 2023 and 2024, Taipower introduced the “Small-Scale Green Power Sales Program,” specifically designed for companies with relatively low renewable energy demand and diverse operating models. The program offers small-scale electricity products with different volume options (e.g., 10, 100, and 200 MWh) and contract terms (1 year and 5 years), helping small and medium-sized enterprises advance their energy transition goals.

Building on insights from the past 2 years and the clients’ feedback, Taipower launched an advanced program designed for businesses with smaller renewable demand and diversified operating patterns, offering practical and flexible ways to adopt renewable energy through a more simplified process:

  • Short-term contract: In addition to the fixed-term one-year contract, companies may also choose a flexible monthly option, under which green electricity is purchased for a two-month period only. The one-year contract is further divided into daytime-only and full-day options. Depending on the electricity supply model, prices are approximately NTD 5.8 to 6.3 per kWh.
  • Flexible demand: Apply for the required volume in units of 10 MWh. For the 1-year contract, corporates may apply for an annual volume ranging from 10 to 1,000 MWh, with the option to cap the monthly energy supply; for the 2-month contract, corporates may apply for 10 to 100 MWh per month to match actual demand.
  • Simplified purchasing process: A key highlight of this year’s program is that participation does not require a bidding mechanism. Companies can purchase renewable energy simply by submitting an application form, ensuring availability and significantly lowering the barrier to participation.

By tailoring solutions and streamlining processes, Taipower makes it easier for businesses with smaller renewable demand to participate in Taiwan’s net-zero journey.

RESET Carbon provides a comprehensive range of renewable energy strategy and procurement services, including assessing renewable electricity demand and target proportions, submitting green electricity purchase applications, supporting the power purchase and matching process, and ensuring the transfer of green electricity and renewable energy certificates.
