Apparel & Footwear, Consumer Goods & Retail Decarbonization

Supporting brands, retailers, and suppliers to cut emissions, drive performance, and future-proof their supply chains.

The apparel and footwear industry contributes between 2% – 7%* of global greenhouse gas emissions, most of which is buried deep within the supply chain. From raw material production to fabric dyeing and assembly, carbon hotspots are concentrated in upstream manufacturing far beyond the direct control of brands and retailers.

While over 500 companies in the fashion sector have committed to science-based targets, action remains fragmented and implementation lags. The gap between commitment and impact remains wide.

Decarbonizing this sector means rethinking how products are sourced, made, and moved. It requires mapping emissions across tiers, prioritizing high-impact suppliers, and embedding climate impact into procurement.

RESET Carbon exists to help bridge this gap. We partner with brands, retailers, manufacturers, and trade associations to turn climate ambition into operational reality by delivering science-based strategies, practical tools, and supply chain expertise across Asia.

*Estimates by the Apparel Impact Institute (AII) in 2023, Global Fashion Agenda and McKinsey in 2020 and Quantis/BCG in 2018 differ considerably due to varying data inputs, assumptions, and methodologies.

Our Solutions for Decarbonizing
Fashion & Retail Supply Chains

From carbon mapping to renewable energy procurement, RESET Carbon supports apparel and retail stakeholders through every step of their net-zero journey. Explore our tailored solutions:

Map supply chain emissions, identify hotspots, and understand decarbonization levers for the greatest impact:

  • Map and quantify Scope 3 emissions across complex, multi-tiered supply chains using primary, modelled, and hybrid approaches.
  • Conduct product- and supplier-level Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • Identify carbon hotspots and prioritize high-impact intervention areas

Design science-based strategies aligned with SBTi and tailored carbon reduction roadmaps:

  • Conduct peer benchmarking and materiality assessments
  • Design Scope 3 decarbonization strategies and governance frameworks
  • Support brands and manufacturers in setting credible, science-based or science-aligned targets (SBT and SAT), including SBTi submission and validation
  • Develop phased implementation roadmaps tailored to supplier capabilities and regional contexts across Asia
  • Create low carbon sourcing roadmaps for brands and retailers

Assess emissions, maturity, and readiness at the factory level to shape targeted interventions:

    • Evaluate supplier engagement strategies by assessing current carbon, energy and water management practices, technology maturity, and reduction potential – initiating engineer-to-engineer carbon conversations through our Carbon Tech Assessment (CTA)
    • Design tailored engagement strategies based on supplier hotspots and maturity, including factory-level (site level) programs (e.g. Carbon Target Setting [CTS], Best Practice Action Plan [BPAP]) and supplier-level (company level) initiatives (e.g. Manufacturer Climate Action Program [MCAP])
    • Perform onsite or remote factory assessments of energy use, material inputs, and process emissions
    • Conduct baseline emissions assessments at the supplier or factory level

Deploy low-carbon technologies, transition away from coal, and access green energy solutions:

    • Support development and implementation of action plans for energy management and efficiency
    • Accelerate energy transition efforts including coal phase-out and low-carbon technology adoption
    • Facilitate renewable energy procurement, including onsite solar feasibility, installation, and offsite solutions such as Green Energy Certificates (GEC), Renewable Energy Certificates (REC), and Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)
    • Provide technical assistance through help-desk services and expert advisory
    • Support access to decarbonization financing

Activate supplier action through training, guides, and technical assistance:

  • Design supplier engagement programs to build awareness and drive climate action
  • Deliver training sessions, playbooks, and practical guides to build supplier readiness
  • Facilitate peer learning and knowledge-sharing across supplier networks

Track impact, generate reports, and align with leading frameworks like SBTi and CDP:

  • Monitor implementation progress through digital tools and onsite visits
  • Use impact monitoring platforms to track GHG reductions and generate emissions reports
  • Support alignment with reporting frameworks such as SBTi, CDP, and other regulatory disclosures
